What this site does, and does not, claim
HeatNest does not test heaters. No manufacturer has sent us a unit and we have not bought one. Anyone in this category claiming an eight-week hands-on test of several competing heaters should be asked for their electricity readings.
What we do instead is documentary work: read everything the seller publishes, record what it does not publish, price every bundle, and check the independent public record. In a market where products are sold through advertising rather than retail, that is where the useful information actually is.
The five criteria
These weights are set before scoring and applied identically to every product.
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Verifiable independent reputation | 30% | The Trustpilot profile on the brand's own domain: score, number of reviews, whether the profile is claimed, and whether the seller replies to criticism. Ratings shown on the seller's own website do not count — they are not independent. |
| Technical transparency | 20% | Wattage, voltage, safety certification, dimensions and weight. In electric heating the wattage determines both the heat and the running cost, so a seller who omits it is omitting the specification that matters most. |
| Purchase conditions | 20% | Currency actually charged versus displayed, clarity of the checkout, whether orders can be cancelled, refund handling, who pays return shipping. |
| Price | 15% | Price per unit at every bundle size, and price per claimed square metre. |
| Guarantee | 15% | The money-back window, when it starts, and any manufacturer warranty on top. |
Rules we hold ourselves to
- The ranking is never ordered by commission. Every product we compare currently pays the same fixed amount, and we say so before the first link. If that ever changes, the page will say so.
- We never invent a rating or a review count. If a product has no independent record, we write that it has none rather than filling the gap.
- We never claim to have tested a product.
- The loser has to lose for a stated reason. A comparison where everything is excellent is not a comparison.
- Ratings from the seller's own site are labelled as such and never mixed with independent ones.
- Every factual claim carries a source at the bottom of the page, with the date it was checked.
Comparative advertising in the EU is governed by Directive 2006/114/EC, which requires comparisons to be objective, to address verifiable characteristics, and not to denigrate. The method above is how we meet that standard rather than a decorative extra.
How we are funded
HeatNest is funded by affiliate commission: if you buy through one of our links, the seller pays us. Every product on this site currently pays the same fixed commission of US$ 70 per sale, regardless of which product or how many units.
Because all the products we compare are commission-paying, we describe our pages as comparisons of specific products rather than surveys of the best on the market. That distinction is not pedantry — it is the difference between a claim we can support and one we cannot.
